Abstract

Making the diagnosis of a childhood malignancy is often very difficult in the early stages of disease. Many of the presenting symptoms are common and typically not caused by cancer, making a delay a frequent occurrence. This article describes the epidemiology and common presenting complaints of childhood malignancies. It contains guidance on diagnostic testing and when to refer to pediatric cancer specialists.
