Abstract
The first of a two part series of articles as part of the Liquid Ventilation Symposium at the AAMI 98 Annual Meeting and Expo in Philadelphia, May 30 to June 3, 1998 is presented. This symposium was a `state of the art' conference, which serves as a platform for future research in biomedical instrumentation and liquid ventilation technology. The Liquid Ventilation Symposium was developed for biomedical engineers, biomedical electronic technicians, respiratory therapists, life scientists, and physicians with an interest in the field of liquid ventilation.
