Osteoblastoma of the Middle Phalanx of the Hand Initially Diagnosed as Melorheostosis

Osteoblastoma of the hand is a rare tumor that is difficult to diagnose. We present a right-handed, 5-year-old boy who presented with pain and edema about the middle phalanx of the right long finger. He was initially diagnosed with melorheostosis and treated with observation then curettage and bone grafting. The patient experienced recurrence with pathology consistent with osteoblastoma, with this being the first report of osteoblastoma of the middle phalanx of the hand. He ultimately was treated with long finger ray amputation. Ray amputation of the long finger was a successful treatment in this patient.
