Abstract

The authors reviewed 14 potential risk factors associated with blood loss in each of 70 liver transplant patients. Although on a statistical basis age correlated as a predictor of intraoperative blood loss, this association was not strong enough to be of clinical value. The authors were unable to predict which patients will have greater intraoperative blood loss. Preparation for massive transfusion should be used for all patients undergoing liver transplantation.
