Resumen
More LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer) individuals are raising children than ever before. Children raised by LGBTQ+ parents are as well-adjusted as children raised by heterosexual parents; however, LGBTQ+ families often encounter personal and institutional forms of discrimination. This chapter reviews recommendations for LGBTQ+ and ally families. Experts recommend talking to children early on about diverse family structures, sharing truthful information, and revisiting these conversations in an ongoing way as children get older. Families should remain informed about the laws and policies that impact parental rights, educate children about discrimination, provide children with reassurance, and establish strong support networks.
